"You don't get it. Everyone's looking to me now. I got this deal going, and... I can't. I gotta keep my head on straight."
―Alberto Falcone to Penguin[src]

Alberto Falcone was the son of the late Carmine Falcone, a notorious socialite, and the Falcone Crime Family's former boss. Despite his near constant struggle with all his addictions to alcohol and Drops, Alberto had continued to support his sister, Sofia Falcone, even when she was sent to Arkham State Hospital, for a crime she did not commit. In the wake of his father's death at the hands of Riddler, Alberto briefly took control of his family's empire, while still struggling with his addictions. Having served as boss for just eight days, Alberto was then murdered by the Penguin, after revealing his plans to develop Bliss, and for also disrespecting him about his goals. Alberto was succeeded as boss by his uncle, Luca Falcone, while Penguin would attempt to cover up his death by claiming that the Maroni Crime Family had murdered him.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Childhood with Sofia Falcone[]

Alberto was the firstborn of Carmine Falcone and his wife Isabella Falcone. He became an older brother when his parents had Sofia Falcone. He and his younger sister were very close during their childhood and remained so as they grew up, unaware that their parents' marriage was falling apart.

One night, their mother tried to take the children and leave Gotham, but their father discovered this and murdered her by strangling her, before hanging her to make it look like suicide. Unaware of this, Alberto and his sister played hide and seek, which resulted in Sofia eventually finding her mother's corpse.

From that moment onward, the siblings were raised by Carmine only and believed for years that their mother took her own life and did not know that it was their father who killed her.

Disappointing Son[]

Carmine Falcone's Expectations[]

As the eldest of the two siblings, Alberto was expected to become his father's successor, but as an adult, Alberto became a party boy, began to drink a lot, and constantly fell behind on assignments for the Family, which made him a disappointment in his father's eyes, while Sofia grew into an intelligent and responsible woman who founded a charity organization with Carmine in memory of their mother. Carmine began to consider Sofia becoming his successor instead of Alberto.

One night Alberto was having dinner with his father and sister, when Sofia announced that she had spoken to Ruth Hill, the wife of Congressman Hill whom Carmine wanted Alberto to speak to. Carmine questioned what a disaster Alberto was, who promised to rectify his situation. Alberto received a text message and left.

Arrest of Sofia Falcone[]

Later, on the night of their father's birthday party, Sofia was arrested for the murder of seven women. While Alberto was on Sofia's side, the rest of the Family wrote false statements that Sofia was mentally disturbed after their mother's death. Sofia and Alberto were informed by her lawyer that she was being sent to Arkham State Hospital for a six month psychiatric observation before her trial in six months.`

Sofia was devastated and was scared of being sent to Arkham, but Alberto comforted her and told her that she would get her trial and that she had to be strong. Sofia was then taken away to Arkham.

Sofia Falcone's Sentencing[]

Six months later, Alberto received the devastating news that Sofia's trial had been cancelled as a result of the head doctor at Arkham, Ventris, telling the judge that Sofia was mentally unwell and unfit to stand trial, with him secretly being paid off by their father. Alberto visited Arkham and told Sofia, whom was left devestated and resigned to her current state.

Party Lifestyle[]

Alberto, devastated by his sister's incarceration, further emerged into his party boy lifestyle, and began to develop a severe alcohol addiction, as well as becoming a Drops addict. This would further worsen his reputation in the family and disappointing his father even more. He began to frequent the Iceberg Lounge, a nightclub managed by Oz, where unbeknownst to him, his half-sister Selena Kyle worked at.

Alberto would continue visiting Sofia in Arkham every week, and was the reason she continued persevering through the abuse she was enduring daily at the hands of the hospital staff.

Final Downfall[]

Assassination of Carmine Falcone[]

After Carmine's murder at the hands of the Riddler, Alberto was made the new head of the Falcone Crime Family. Soon afterwards, he used his new position to have Sofia released from Arkham with the help of her former doctor, Julian Rush.

Sofia was then taken back to their family home, where Alberto became so protective of his sister that he refused to let her leave.

Creation of Bliss[]

Sofia and Alberto began producing a new drug that Sofia had discovered in Arkham. They began planning to use this drug and take over the criminal underworld together, all the while keeping it a secret from the Family. Alberto set up the drug lab in the Admiral Dairy Factory and hired Trey Bloom as their chief chemist to produce the drug, while also hiring a group of thugs led by Marco to oversee the security at the lab.

Murdered by the Penguin[]

"You really think people'd make a float out of your dumb face and march it down the street chanting your goddamn name? "Oh--oh, Oswald Cobb! Remember him? What a guy..." What a little bitch."
―Alberto Falcone to Penguin[src]

A week after Carmine's death, Alberto went to the abandoned Iceberg Lounge to retrieve a stash of jewels from his father's old loft that he planned on using to pay off his men at the drug lab. When he got there, he stumbled upon Penguin in possession of those jewels and held him at gunpoint. Penguin proceeded to act like he was returning the jewels to Alberto, as his father would have wanted, but Alberto could see right through him and knew he was trying to scam him. Penguin, seeing Alberto was under stress, asked him if he was okay. Alberto told him that he's been under stress with his new position and he has a big drug deal going that he needs to remain on task with.

Alberto and Penguin proceeded to drink from his father's old wine. During which, Alberto talked about his father's views on Penguin and the respect and power he commanded over the city, using Sal Maroni's ring as an example. Penguin told Alberto the story of Rex Calabrese, the old gangster from his neighborhood that inspired him. Alberto asked Penguin if he wanted him to be more like Rex, "a small time asshole", as it could allow Penguin to take control of the Family for himself. But then, he brought up how Penguin wishes to become like Rex, loved and revered, which causes Alberto to laugh at him, remarking how no one is gonna remember him as a honorable gangster and calling him a "Little Bitch". Penguin, angered, pulled out his gun, and shot Alberto three times in the stomach, instantly killing the short time Falcone Don.

Legacy[]

Death Exploited[]

Penguin used Alberto's death to spark a gang war between the Falcones and the Maronis, framing the Maronis for his murder.

Personality[]

After the death of his father, Alberto believed he was next in line to take over the Falcone Crime Family, showcasing his father’s power-hungry nature has passed down to him. He is also an addict as he uses the Family's own product Drops. He had very little respect for Oz Cobb believing him to be predictable and power-hungry like him, which also made him paranoid that he might take what is his.[1] According to the Gotham Gazette, Alberto was also a notorious party boy who frequented many nightclubs, including the Iceberg Lounge, because he wasn’t afraid of being out in the open, unlike his reclusive father.

Although he presents himself as a mafia prince involved in parties and vices, his distrust is as pronounced as that of his sister. This is evident by him being able to understand Oz's true nature and intentions, which is reflected in his cautious approach toward him. However, he makes the mistake of underestimating Oz.[2] At his funeral, Sofia reveals that the family will not miss him in the same way she does, highlighting that even his own relatives had little love or respect for him.[3] Alberto always showed great care for Sofia; they maintained a close bond. She cared deeply for him, serving as a grounding presence and stabilizing force in his life. Sofia tells Oz that during her time in Arkham, Alberto visited her, bringing hope during her darkest moments. Unlike the other Falcones, Alberto didn't mind allowing Sofia to take on a leadership role within the mafia family.[2]
