Early Life[]

Moving to Gotham City[]

Annika Kosolov was born in Estonia but then emigrated to the United States of America for a fresh start. She worked as a waitress at the Iceberg Lounge, a club in Gotham City that is frequently exclusive to members of the Falcone Crime Syndicate and their associates, where she met and befriended Selina Kyle, who she became roommates with.[1]

Life in Gotham[]

Meeting Mayor Mitchell, Jr.[]

Annika also frequently met with Mayor Don Mitchell, Jr. and thus sparked the hidden romance between them.[1] Through this relationship, Annika learned about a secret conspiracy between Carmine Falcone and corrupt Gotham offiicals who arrested drug lord Salvatore Maroni and ended his operations to cement Falcone's rise to power in Gotham's criminal underworld. However, photos taken by the Riddler indicated that Mitchell was abusive towards Annika.

Disappearance and Murder[]

After Mitchell was murdered by Riddler, photos of Mitchell and Annika became public after they were sent to various media outlets. However, when the mayor revealed the identity of "The Rat", Annika was abducted by William Kenzie and brought to the Iceberg Lounge, where she was strangled by Falcone shortly after the murder of Don Mitchell, Jr..[1]

Trivia[]

  • Annika lived at 13 Queen Street, Apartment 1A.[1]
  • According to The Batman: The Official Script Book, Annika was 22 years old before she was killed.
  • Annika is possibly a stand-in for Holly Robinson, who, in the comics, was also a young woman who Selina Kyle had a close relationship within her early days as Catwoman.
  • Annika's murder committed personally by Falcone was likely inspired by the murder of Deborah Hussey who was strangled personally by Whitey Bulger at the Winter Hill Gang's hideout in South Boston on the 14th January 1985.
    • Like in the film, Deborah Hussey was a 26-year-old prostitute who was the daughter of Bulger's associate and hitman, Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi's girlfriend, Marion Hussey. According to Flemmi, the circumstances surrounding Deborah Hussey's murder was that Bulger had become aware of that Hussey was going to tell her mother about the sexual abuse that her and her sister, Stephanie Hussey had suffered at the hands of Flemmi. In his testimony, Flemmi stated that Bulger had lured Deborah Hussey to the Winter Hill Gang's hideout, known in the media as the "Killing House" in South Boston where Bulger and Flemmi took turns strangling Hussey until she had succumbed. After killing Hussey, Bulger and Flemmi took her body from the house to Dorchester and buried her in a shallow grave.
  • The motive for Falcone killing Annika to keep his status as an informer a secret was also inspired by the early murder of Debra Davis who was also strangled by Bulger at the house on the night of the 16th September 1981. Like the later murder of Hussey, Davis worked as a jewellery store clerk who was a previous girlfriend of Flemmi. According to Flemmi, Bulger had found out that Davis had become aware of Bulger and Flemmi's statuses as FBI informants. According to Flemmi, after killing Davis, both he and Bulger took Davis' body from the house to the bank of Neponsit River where they buried her in a grave.
