- "I'll take on the city's criminals alone so I won't put anyone else at risk. I'll need a disguise. I'll have to hide my face to keep people from recognizing me. A mask? And I'll need protection, like a bulletproof vest that covers my whole body. Made out of strong material-something highly durable. But it'll have to be flexible, so I can fight while I'm wearing it. Wayne Industries?"
- ―Bruce Wayne[src]
The Batsuit is a protective armor that gives its user, Batman, a formidable tactical defense against criminals.
History[]
When Bruce Wayne became the vigilante known as "Batman", he created a suit of armor to strike fear into the hearts of his enemies, as well as to protect him from criminals and conceal his identity.[1]
Physical Description[]
The suit has shell-plated armor, a Utility Belt used to store weapons, and bulletproof gauntlets that contain refills for his Grapple Gun. Batman also uses a holster to hold his Grapple Gun. His suit also dons a black cape and upturned collar. The suit also features a bat-like cowl with pointed ears used to frighten criminals he encounters.
Capabilities[]
Functions[]
- Identity Concealment: Bruce uses a black bat-like mask to both conceal his identity and to keep those he cares about safe from harm.
- Intimidation: Bruce uses the suit to terrify his enemies.
- Ballistic Protection: The suit is capable of protecting the wearer from gunfire. It has proven effective against rounds from handguns, as well as rounds from automatic assault rifles, however it was weak to rounds from a sniper rifle, which penetrated the armor and seriously injured Batman. It is made of a flexible, yet extremely durable experimental metal alloy. Based on its ballistic performance, the metal plating appears to be a specially engineered ballistic variant of Steel or Nitinol, a shape memory material that has a superior strength/density ratio to titanium, and at a lower price. Made of nickel titanium, If deformed, this material can return to its original shape after being heated, a property that makes it extremely promising for ballistics, as it can repair itself from non-penetrative damage. a 1mm thick sheet of Nitinol can stop a 7.62 NATO round from a distance of 10 meters with only 4mm of plastic deformation and no penetration
- Utility Belt: As Batman, Bruce carries with him a utility belt consisting of a strap and buckle that houses many pouches and cylindrical cartridges attached to its outside each containing one of his various gadgets.
- Tactical Knife: Batman's chest plate holsters a large bat-shaped knife which he utilizes to slash through an electrical cable that threatened the safety of civilians wading through the floodwaters below.
- Grapple Gun: As Batman, Bruce uses a pneumatic grapple gun affixed to a sleeve mounted quick-draw mechanism on the underside of each gauntlet, that deploys the gun into his hand from his forearm. after deployment, the end of a grappling hook projectile with 3 spring assisted claws and a sharpened harpoon-like tip extends from the muzzle of the gun. This grappling hook is affixed to the end of a thin, high tensile dynamic cable, that can be retracted by a motorized spool and ascension winch. The winching system is equipped with a set of brakes, which automatically decelerate a falling body at a rate inversely proportional to its mass, in order to safely recover from a fall. these brakes can also be controlled directly, allowing the user to rappel down the face of a vertical surface. This can be used to make a quick ascent to a rooftop, to make a safe descent from a rooftop, to safely recover from a fall before hitting the ground, or offensively to pull people or objects.
- Wingsuit: Batman can activate an experimental wingsuit housed in his cape by tugging on a ripcord located on his left and right arms. Bruce uses the wingsuit to glide across Gotham City usually to his detriment. Landing involves deploying a parachute to slow the wearers descent velocity, and after landing, the cape detaches from the suit and needs to be re-installed.

Trivia[]
- The Batsuit bares some resemblance to the batsuit in Batman: Arkham Knight and Batman: The Telltale Series. The stitching on the cowl and collared cape resembles the suit for Gotham by Gaslight.
