Bliss is a new designer drug that had been originally designed and introduced to Gotham City by Sofia and Alberto Falcone.

History[]

Creation[]

Bliss originated in the "candy" pills that were administered to innmates at Arkham State Hospital during Sofia Falcone's institutionalization.[1] After observing its effects for some time, Sofia began working with her brother Alberto Falcone to turn those pills into a revolutionary new drug, with their end goal to help revitalize their family business.

At some point later the two found a chemist, Trey Bloom, to take the drug to it's final form, with some drug's components coming directly out of Arkham (likely under Sofia's direction).[2]

Bliss is seen ingested orally by Gotham partygoers on its first "trial run", which was orhcestrated by Sofia and Oz "the Penguin" Cobb at Link Tsai's club to impress Feng Zhao, the "Dai Lo" (ie. mob boss) of the Gotham Triads.[2]

Description[]

Bliss is derived from the basidispores of the bleeding tooth fungi and appears to be a habit-forming analgesic that generates a "euphoric high" in its users, making them feel deeply content and relieving them of their mental, as well as some of their physical pain. It takes the form of dark red crystals packaged in small glass jars, which melt into a red liquid on the tongue. Its effects seem to fade relatively fast, increasing the demand quickly over the course of a single night and allowing for prices per dosage to be continually raised by its suppliers.

Sofia describes the drug's powerful euphoric effect as the reason why Bliss' original pill form was given to patients at Arkham, as it made the patients "...content... Submissive. Any pain that we had just... floated away, allowing us to just forget where we were." She explains that Bliss will be highly desired among the long-suffering citizens of Gotham, who are still recovering from the aftereffects of the Riddler's attacks on the city and his assasinations of its political pillars. According to Sofia (who was once the heiress to the entire Falcone drug empire), "Its a very powerful drug. And whoever controls it will control the future of the drug trade in Gotham".[2] Beyond being a shroom-based drug compound, Bliss' effects also seems at least partially based on those of opiates and cocaine.[2]
