"Drowning our sorrows. You want a drop?"
Gil Colson to Selina Kyle[src]

Drops are a mysterious drug in Gotham City.

History[]

The Drop Epidemic[]

In 1987, a mysterious drug known as Drops were introduced into Gotham City which quickly became addictive and lethal when used more than once. When addiction and death rates for Drops increased, the Gotham City Health Department attended to those who were sick or addicted to Drops and offered their services. Also, an organization known as the Gotham Drug and Drops Resistance was founded to specifically combat the use of Drops.[1]

Arrest of Salvatore Maroni[]

"Under my administration, the Gotham PD has dealt major blows to organized crime and drug trafficking. The Salvatore Maroni case was the biggest drug bust in city history."
"But drops and other drugs are still rampant. It's gotten worse."
Don Mitchell, Jr. and Bella Reál[src]

Carmine Falcone ratted out Salvatore Maroni's drops operation and helped to advance the careers of the officers who brought him in, using them as his inside men within the Gotham City Police Department.

Conspiracy[]

"Drops money is coming in to New Beginnings. You have been asked to log payments to a shell company called Waterfront Industries. You log these payments as varying numbers, so that no computer, or person, would be able to track them. That money, which totals a $10,000 payment, is then sent from Waterfront Industries to the Renewal Program as a donation. Your Mr. Joon was a smurf. You are now a smurf in his place. You are being forced to clean this drug money, in return for officially recorded employment that allows you to stay in the country. You make donations of dirty money to Renewal to keep up appearances. Throw off the scent."
Edward Nashton to Ana Joon[src]

"He's wasted."
"No shit."
Batman and Selina Kyle[src]

Used as a simple eye drop, the substance causes hyperactivity and paranoia, as demonstrated by District Attorney Gil Colson when conversing with Selina Kyle at 44 Below. The substance's impact on the city shows how it's a simmering problem that lies behind Batman's larger task of confronting the corruption that extends beyond the GCPD. Even after he's been dubbed a hero, Batman's battle on Drops in Gotham continues, from Penguin's continuous distribution of Drops.
