Gianna "Gia" Viti is the daughter of Carla Viti, and the niece of Johnny Viti. She is the last surviving member of the Viti Family and is one of Sofia Gigante's last living relatives.
Biography[]
Attending Alberto's Funeral[]
Gia and her parents went to Gotham to attend her cousin Alberto's funeral. Gia finds her mother, who she asks if she can eat cake, and then she meets her cousin, Sofia, who her mother was talking to at the time. Sofia comments on how pretty she is and puts her hairpin back in, which had come loose. Gia is taken away from Sofia by her mother.[1]
Spared by Sofia[]
Later, Gia is having dinner with the rest of her family when her cousin Sofia comes in and comments on how unfair it is that everyone turned against her when she was innocent. That same night, Sofia takes Gia to the greenhouse to eat cake, where the two of them stay overnight. Before falling asleep, Gia tells Sofia that her mother told her that she did bad things, and her cousin tells her that she did, but it was because her father locked her in a dungeon with monsters. Gia fears that she will be locked up too, but Sofia promises that she will never allow it. The next morning it is revealed that Sofia had taken Gia to the greenhouse so that she would not suffocate from the gas she had released to kill the entire Falcone Family, including Gia's parents. Police later arrived and set up a crime scene.[2]
Taken Into Social Services[]
Social Services came and took Gia to a children’s home, as they viewed Sofia as unfit to be her guardian. Gia and Sofia exchanged one last glance at each other before she entered the van and was then taken to the Brookside children’s home.[3]
While there, Gia develops self harm tendencies, often scarring her arm. She later requests to speak with the Gotham City Police Department, as she remembers seeing a gas mask in Sofia's bag the night their family died, and begins to suspect that Sofia was responsible.[4]
Sofia was then informed of this by Julian Rush, and she visited Gia. Sofia told Gia that she didn’t kill her parents, but she admitted that her parents were bad people and they ultimately deserved what came to them. Sofia then hugged Gia and told her that by keeping her here, she is giving Gia a chance for a much better life outside of their family. Sofia then left, heartbroken over leaving Gia at the children's home.[4]
Personality[]
Gia seems to be an innocent and kind girl, who is unaware of her family's illegal business, and quite naive as she trusts her cousin, Sofia, even though her mother warned her not to.[1]
She also shows that she is afraid of ending up like Sofia: locked up in a dungeon.[2]
However, Gia is more intelligent and observant than she appears; she noticed that her cousin had a gas mask in her backpack and thought that maybe she killed her parents, asking to speak to the police about it.[4]
Following her parents' deaths, she developed self-harm tendencies.[4]
