The Gigante Crime Family was an organized crime family based in Gotham City, New Jersey. They were founded by Sofia Gigante in 2022 after the destruction of the Falcone Crime Family. They were allied with the Maroni Crime Family in a gang war against their rival, the Penguin, his crew, and his alliance (later known as the Cobb Crime Family), but they lost the war, as Penguin destroyed both the Maroni and Gigante Families and orchestrated the arrest of Sofia for her key role in the Bombing of Crown Point.
History[]
Foundation[]
After murdering her family members, Sofia Falcone had her cousin Johnny Viti summon a number of family operatives, who were all non made members. In their meeting, she revealed her intentions of not only putting an end to her father's legacy, but forming a new family, taking on her mother's maiden name Gigante, and ending the war with the Maroni Crime Family. Viti tried objecting to this idea, but he was immediately shot and killed by Sofia.[1]
Sofie then presented her father's money that they earned for him, which he claimed for himself. She told them that under her leadership, they will be a family that does not throw each other away like cannon fodder. All of the men submitted to Sofia, addressing her as Miss Gigante, before taking their shares of the money.[1]
Alliance with Maronis[]
Sofia, and her bodyguard Leo, then tracked down Salvatore Maroni to his cabin upstate. Maroni was grieving after the deaths of his wife and son at the hands of the Penguin. Sofia proposed an alliance between their families to kill Penguin and take the city for themselves, which Maroni agreed to.[1]
War with the Penguin[]
Sofia and Maroni had their families track down Penguin and his crew, however, whenever they stumbled on his men delivering Bliss to their buyers in the city they always disappeared. Unbeknownst to them, Penguin and his crew had been using the abandoned Trolley system to avoid their detection.
Abduction of Francis Cobb[]
Sofia and Maroni broke into Penguin's apartment to find evidence of loved ones of his they could use as leverage. Sofia soon found a picture of his girlfriend, Eve Karlo, a local prostitute. However, when Sofia went to meet with Eve, she found that Eve didn’t truly care about him, and neither did he. After revealing Penguin's role in framing her for her father's crimes, Eve told Sofia where Penguin was hiding out in Crown Point.
Sofia went to the abandoned apartment building that Penguin was hiding out, where she found his protégé and driver, Victor Aguilar, and Penguin's mother, Francis Cobb. Sofia proceeded to knock Vic out cold with a crowbar, and brought Francis to her mansion.
The next morning, Penguin returned and discovered Vic, who told him Sofia had his mother. The building was soon surrounded by Sal and other Gigante/Maroni enforcers. After helping Vic escape, Penguin was captured and beaten by Sal, who dragged him to his drug lab in the Trolley's to take it over.
Attack on Gotham City Uptown Trolley and Transit System[]
Reaching the Lab, Sal and his men attempted to take over the operation, until Penguin provoked Sal by mentioning his dead wife, causing the grieving mobster to attempt to burn Penguin alive. Leo attempted to stop Sal, but was accidentally bludgeoned to death in the process. In that instant, one of Penguin's men tripped the electricity, causing a fight to break out between the crews.
Penguin and Sal fought in an old trolley car, where Sal ended up dying from a heart attack. His men were all killed by Penguin's crew afterwards. Penguin then used Sal's phone to call Sofia and arrange a deal, she’ll return his mother to him and he'll give her his operation and all of his connections in the underworld. Afterwards, Sofia was advised by Julian Rush to follow her own desire, and Sofia decided that she wanted to destroy Penguin and then she wanted to leave Gotham.
Bombing of Crown Point[]
Sofia had one of her men drive a car to Penguin's lab in the Trolley System. She then called him and revealed that she wasn’t in the car, and was with his mother. Penguin opened the car to find a bomb set to explode in twenty seconds. Meanwhile, Sofia, Julian, and a few of her men, had taken Francis to Monroe's, an abandoned Jazz Club.
Penguin ran to take cover, with the bomb destroying his operation, killing most of his men, and leveling a portion of Crown Point. Afterwards, Penguin was captured by Marcus Wise, a corrupt cop on Sofia's payroll.
