"This isn't a prison. It's your home. And we're your family."

The Gotham Orphanage, formerly known as Wayne Manor, was an orphanage established by Thomas Wayne in Gotham City.[1] It was later partially burned down by one of its former residents, Edward Nashton,[2] and was left derelict ever since.

History[]

"Investing in our future Gotham orphanage."
―Gotham Renewal Corporation[src]

During his election for mayor, Thomas Wayne planned to use the Gotham Renewal Fund in order to improve the orphanage’s state. However, he, along with his wife, Martha were killed before the funding could go through.

Ever since, the orphans who lived there had to suffer uncomfortable living situations (e.g., waking up to finger-eating-rats, one of the babies dying due to winter conditions). Due to this, Edward Nashton, one of the orphans who lived there would later become the Riddler to get revenge on Gotham’s most corrupt citizens.

Appearances for Gotham Orphanage
In chronological order:

Behind the scenes[]

  • In DC Comics, Wayne Manor was the home of the Wayne Family for many generations and located in Crest Hill, Bristol Township. The Wayne Tower replaces the role of Wayne Manor in the film The Batman.
  • The appearance of the orphanage has similarities to the location, "Willowood" in the comics. This location traditionally appears as a building connected to Wayne Family secrets, and in Scott Snyder's City of Owls storyline was shown as an orphanage which the Waynes were patrons to, before it was shut down and abandoned for abusing its children. When Batman travels to Willowood in the story, it is decrepit and abandoned with an appearance similar to the orphanage of the film.
