The Gotham Renewal Corporation is a corrupt business based in Gotham City. Its purpose is the restoration of Gotham City, which includes recycling and sanitation. However, after the death of its founder Thomas Wayne, criminals and corrupt officials began to use the corporation as a front to bribe officials or launder money.

History

Creation

Billionaire philanthropist Thomas Wayne was one of the few in Gotham City who realized that the city could be better, but it was still in ruin and despair. In response to this, he created the Gotham Renewal Corporation, intending to make Gotham a better place to the people. The Gotham Renewal Corporation was initially intended to help reinvigorate and build infrastructure as well as financially strengthen Gotham's various public services and institutions.

Huge charitable fund with no oversight, everybody got a piece, but Falcone wanted more. So we orchestrated a play to take down Maroni big. He'd rat out his Drops operation, made the careers of everybody that went after him, and install them all as his puppets. You think this goddamn election matters? Falcone's the mayor. He'd been the mayor for the last twenty years."

Following the murder of Thomas and his wife Martha, the criminals of Gotham quickly realized that it was the perfect opportunity to make large amounts of money and bribe city officials, such as Don Mitchell, Jr., Pete Savage, and Gil Colson. The top two most influential criminals involved were Carmine Falcone and Salvatore Maroni, and both their crime syndicates were able to a good profit off of the Renewal Corporation. However, Falcone got greedy, and ratted Maroni out to Mitchell, which caused the Gotham City Police Department to execute the largest drug bust in Gotham's history, putting an end to Maroni's operations and secretly allowing Falcone to rise in his place.

The Renewal Corporation's true purpose continued to be a secret, until a serial killer known as the Riddler exposed the lies of the renewal during his extreme campaign to expose the city's corruption, which resulted in the assassination of Carmine Falcone, leaving its future in doubt.
