Maria Kyle was a waitress at the 44 Below who had a relationship with mobster Carmine Falcone and the mother of Selina Kyle. When Selina was seven, she was murdered by Falcone, leaving Selina alone.[1]

Meeting Carmine Falcone[]
Maria Kyle was a waitress who worked at 44 Below in Gotham City. She met and had a relationship with Carmine Falcone, and became his goomar (mistress). Maria eventually gave birth to their illegitimate daughter, Selina Kyle.
Death[]
When Selina turned seven, Maria was murdered by Falcone, who successfully covered up his crime and didn't intervene when Selina was taken into social services.
Legacy[]
As a result of Maria's death and Falcone's abandonment of her, Selina eventually grew up to be a drug dealer and burglar known as Catwoman, all while despising Falcone for abandoning her. After Selina decided to get revenge of Falcone for her mother's murder and the murder of her roommate, Annika Kosolov, she informed Falcone that she was Maria's daughter before trying to attack Falcone before being overpowered, although she was saved by Batman, who defeated Falcone and delivered into GCPD custody before Falcone was shot dead by the Riddler, inadvertently avenging Maria. After Riddler's arrest, Selina visited Maria's grave before deciding to leave Gotham and start a new life in Bludhaven.

- In the DC Comics, Maria Kyle was the deceased mother of Selina Kyle, first appearing in Catwoman #81 (June 2000).
- This is the third Batman film to make mention of Selina's mother. She first appeared albeit voice messages in Batman Returns and was mentioned in The Dark Knight Rises.
- In the television show Gotham, Maria Kyle was portrayed by Ivana Miličević.
- Maria was born in the same year as Oswald Cobb.
