The Penguin's Crew were a mob group led by Oz Cobb. They worked for the Falcone Crime Family until the power vacuum in Gotham's underworld sparked them to fight for control of the city. After the end of the gang war, Oz and the other gangs of Gotham joined together to form the Cobb Crime Family.
History[]
Formation[]
After being promoted in the Falcone Crime Family, Oswald Cobb, also known as the Penguin, was given control of his own crew, which consisted of numerous non-made members of the Family. They were mainly tasked with managing the Family's drops operation, as well as serving as hired muscle at the Iceberg Lounge.
Run-ins with Batman[]
Failed Smuggling Ring[]
In 2021, Penguin had one of his men, Reed "Piggy" Porcello, run a racket smuggling military grade explosives into the city behind Carmine Falcone's back. Blackmailing a woman named Dex Starling into helping with smuggling the explosives. The operation would later be shut down thanks to the mysterious Batman vigilante. Penguin then had Porcello take the fall for the event, and he apologized to Falcone.[1]
Riddler Conspiracy[]
In November of 2022, Penguin and his crew came under investigation by Batman and James Gordon in their potential role in the Salvatore Maroni drug bust. After a skirmish at the Eastside Depot, Penguin was interrogated by Batman and Gordon, but they found he wasn't involved in the Maroni Bust.[2]
It was later discovered that Falcone was the informant that gave up Maroni to the police, which disgusted Penguin and the rest of his crew.[2]
Conspiring Against the Falcones and Maronis[]
After the Death of Falcone and the Flooding of Gotham, Penguin killed Alberto Falcone and framed The Maronis for the killing, sparking a gang war between the two families. Penguin, with the help of his new protégé Victor Aguilar, and his crew, conspired against both families, putting them against each other.[3]
After Penguin was exposed as a traitor to Sofia Falcone, he and his crew defected from the family, and decided to build their own empire. They kidnapped Sal and Nadia Maroni's son Taj, and forced them to return the Bliss to them. During the exchange however, The Maronis double crossed them, and Penguin killed both Taj and Nadia by burning them to death, and escaped with the remains of the Bliss. With a lot of the Bliss destroyed, Penguin and his crew set up their new base of operations in the abandoned Gotham City Trolley system, with them turning it into a new drug lab to produce more bliss.[4]
Building Their Empire[]
Over the next few weeks, Penguin's crew turned the Trolley system into their underground empire, building a large distribution network, and supplying the other mobs in the city with Bliss. They still had to evade The Maronis and the newly formed Gigante Family led by Sofia.[5]
Later, Penguin's Crew becomes even stronger and the balance of power changes when they make an alliance with Triads, LoBoys, Sullivan Crime Family, Burnley Town Massive and the Odessa Mob. Proposing an alliance, Penguin said, "Between us, we got more territory, more manpower than this city's ever seen". After all the mob heads open their drinks and raise them up in agreement to his offer, Penguin raises his drink and declares "To taking back Gotham".[5]
Massive Losses[]
A day later, Penguin's mother Francis was captured by Sofia, and Penguin was captured Maroni and his men, but not before telling Victor to get help from their allies. Maroni and his men brought Oz to his operation, and took all his men hostage, killing both Nick and Bruno. Maroni attempted to take over his operation, however, Penguin's men fought back, and Maroni died of a heart attack soon after.[6]
Penguin then called Sofia on Sal's phone and told her that if she brought his mother to him then his operation belonged to her. However, Sofia instead sent a car with a bomb in it to the meeting. Penguin ran for cover, and the bomb went off, killing several of his men, and leveling a significant portion of the Crown Point. Penguin was then captured by a cop on Sofia's payroll.[6]
Final Stand against Sofia and Dissolution[]
The Bombing of Crown Point left Oz, Vic, and Zeke as the last surviving members of the crew. After a standoff with Sofia at Monroe's, Oz and Vic coerced the other gangs to betray their bosses and join them in taking over the underworld.
After defeating Sofia and sending her back to Arkham State Hospital, Oz killed Vic, and moved forward in solidifying his new crime family, thus ending his crew.
