The Batman: Part II is an upcoming superhero film and the third installment of The Batman Universe, based on the DC Comics superhero of the same name. The film is a sequel to The Batman and The Penguin.[1][5] The film is set to be released on October 1, 2027.[6]

In December 2021, Robert Pattinson said he had ideas for developing Batman's character in further films, while Clark said The Batman would lay a foundation for future films to build upon. Pattinson and Reeves expressed interest in introducing Robin and featuring the Court of Owls, Calendar Man, Mr. Freeze, or Hush as villains in a sequel.
On April 26, 2022, Warner Bros. announced that the next chapter to The Batman was in development at CinemaCon 2022 and that Matt Reeves would return to direct and Robert Pattinson would return to star in the film.[1]
On January 11, 2023, Matt Reeves revealed in an interview with Collider that The Penguin would tie-in to the sequel.[15]
On January 31, 2023, DC Studios announced their 10-year plan for the franchise, and revealed that the sequel would be titled The Batman: Part II and that it would release in theaters October 3, 2025.[16]
On March 29, 2023, Deadline revealed that Clayface would've played a major role in the sequel, until it was later revealed he would star in his own film.[17][18]
On June 30, 2023, Matt Reeves confirmed in an interview that Greig Fraser would return as the cinematographer of this film.[19]
On March 12, 2024, Deadline and James Gunn (Co-CEO of DC Studios) revealed that due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA Strikes, it caused the script for the sequel to be far from complete because of the studios refusing to make a fair deal with writers for months. Thus delaying the film by a year to October 2, 2026.[6]
On September 4, 2024, Matt Reeves in an interview said that the script for the film was almost finished and they would begin production next year.[9]
On December 27, 2024, Variety reported that the film had once again been pushed back to October 1, 2027, while other sources stated that production will begin Summer of 2025.[4][20] The Hollywood Reporter also reported that the film was currently untitled and that The Batman: Part II would no longer be the title of the film.[21]
On June 27, 2025, Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin revealed on their social media accounts that the script for the film was officially complete, and that The Batman: Part II is still the title of the film.[22][23]
On December 2, 2025, Matt Reeves confirmed on his social media accounts that Erik Messerschmidt will serve as the cinematographer for the film, after Fraser could not return due to scheduling conflicts with The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event.[24]

On April 26, 2022, CinemaCon 2022 confirmed that Robert Pattinson would return to star in the film.[1]
On October 3, 2022, Barry Keoghan expressed interest in reprising the Joker in the sequel.[25]
On February 28, 2023, GQ confirmed Andy Serkis would be returning as Alfred Pennyworth in the film.[8]
It was also reported by Midgard Times and Collider that Colin Farrell and Zoë Kravitz were interested in reprising their roles as Oz Cobb/Penguin and Selina Kyle/Catwoman, respectively.[26][27]
On January 16, 2024, Entertainment Tonight revealed that Jeffrey Wright would return as Jim Gordon for the sequel, he also expressed interest in having Gordon move up the ranks in the Gotham City Police Department from lieutenant.[7]
On September 4, 2024, Matt Reeves confirmed in an interview that Colin Farrell would return as Oz Cobb/Penguin.[9]
On December 3, 2025, Deadline reported that Scarlett Johansson was in talks to join the cast of the film,[12] while, Variety also reported that Zoë Kravitz was not expected to return as Selina Kyle/Catwoman.[11]
On January 6, 2026, Deadline reported that Sebastian Stan was in talks to join the cast of the film,[12] while, Variety also reported that Barry Keoghan was expected to return as the Joker and confirmed that Johansson had joined the cast in an undisclosed role.[11]
On January 9, 2026, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Sebastian Stan had joined the cast and that he would be portraying Harvey Dent.[13]
Filming[]
On February 23, 2023, an issue from Production Weekly revealed that the film would begin production in November. Co-producer Michael E. Uslan later confirmed this report.[28][29]
On June 1, 2023, Midgard Times reported that production for the film was pushed from November 2023 to March 2024, due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike.[26]
On December 17, 2024, UK Production News reported that the film would begin production in London in Spring 2025.[30]
On February 13, 2025, Robert Pattinson has said in an exclusive with Deadline that production for the film is due to start at the end of 2025.[31]
On August 5, 2025, Production List revealed that the film has officially moved into pre‑production, with principal photography confirmed to begin January 1, 2026 in London,[32], although the next day, Deadline reported that filming is scheduled to begin Spring 2026.[33]
On September 14, 2025, Variety confirmed that filming is officially scheduled to begin around the end of April or the beginning of May 2026.[34]
