The Batman: Part II is an upcoming superhero film and the third installment of The Batman Universe, based on the DC Comics superhero of the same name. The film is a sequel to The Batman and The Penguin.[1][4] The film is set to be released on October 1, 2027.[5]

In December 2021, Robert Pattinson said he had ideas for developing Batman's character in further films, while Clark said The Batman would lay a foundation for future films to build upon. Pattinson and Reeves expressed interest in introducing Robin and featuring the Court of Owls, Calendar Man, Mr. Freeze, or Hush as villains in a sequel.
On April 26, 2022, Warner Bros. announced that the next chapter to The Batman was in development at CinemaCon 2022 and that Matt Reeves would return to direct and Robert Pattinson would return to star in the film.[1]
On October 3, 2022, Barry Keoghan expressed interest in reprising the Joker in the sequel.[10]
On January 11, 2023, Matt Reeves revealed in an interview with Collider that The Penguin would tie-in to the sequel.[11]
On January 31, 2023, DC Studios announced their 10-year plan for the franchise, and revealed that the sequel would be titled The Batman: Part II and that it would release in theaters October 3, 2025.[12]
On February 23, 2023, an issue from Production Weekly revealed that the film would begin production in November. Co-producer Michael E. Uslan later confirmed this report.[13][14]
On February 28, 2023, GQ confirmed Andy Serkis would be returning as Alfred Pennyworth in the film.[7]
On March 29, 2023, Deadline revealed that Clayface would play a major role in the sequel.[15][16]
On June 1, 2023, Midgard Times reported that production for the film was pushed from November 2023 to March 2024, due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike.[17] It was also reported by Midgard Times and Collider that Colin Farrell and Zoë Kravitz were interested in reprising their roles as Oz Cobb/Penguin and Selina Kyle/Catwoman, respectively.[17][18]
On June 30, 2023, Matt Reeves confirmed in an interview that Greig Fraser would return as the cinematographer of this film.[19]
On January 16, 2024, Entertainment Tonight revealed that Jeffrey Wright would return as Jim Gordon for the sequel, he also expressed interest in having Gordon move up the ranks in the Gotham City Police Department from lieutenant.[6]
On March 12, 2024, Deadline and James Gunn (Co-CEO of DC Studios) revealed that due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA Strikes, it caused the script for the sequel to be far from complete because of the studios refusing to make a fair deal with writers for months. Thus delaying the film by a year to October 2, 2026.[5]
On September 4, 2024, Matt Reeves in an interview said that the script for the film was almost finished and they would begin production next year, while also confirming that Colin Farrell would return as Oz Cobb/Penguin.[8]
On December 17, 2024, UK Production News reported that the film would begin production in London in Spring 2025.[20]
On December 27, 2024, Variety reported that the film had once again been pushed back to October 1, 2027, while other sources stated that production will begin Summer of 2025.[3][21] The Hollywood Reporter also reported that the film was currently untitled and that The Batman: Part II would no longer be the title of the film.[22]
On February 13, 2025, Robert Pattinson has said in an exclusive with Deadline that production for the film is due to start at the end of 2025.[23]
