The Triads are a Chinese criminal organization operating in Gotham City and a rival group to the Falcone Crime Family.
After the Dai Lao Feng Zhao's death was orchestrated by the Penguin, Link Tsai became the new leader, and the Triads were integrated into the Cobb Crime Family.
History[]
Background[]
The Triads were a collective of medium-sized Chinese gangs in Gotham's Chinatown. They had previously been a huge part of the city's drug trade, until the Falcone Crime Family pushed them out, forcing them to relegate to distributing drugs only in Chinatown.[1]
Led by the Dai Lao, Feng Zhao, the Triads ran numerous nightclubs and casinos in the city, with their headquarters being the Apex in Chinatown. They also had international connections that allowed them to remain active in the worldwide drug trade.[1]
Bliss Deal[]
In 2022, Sofia Falcone and the Penguin visited Zhao's deputy, Link Tsai, at the Apex, and proposed a deal with their new drug called Bliss. Link told them that first they needed to have the Falcone Underboss Johnny Viti on board with the deal for Zhao to approve.[1]
After getting Viti to approve of their deal, Falcone and Penguin met with Zhao later that night at the Apex, where they convinced him to purchase and distribute Bliss. However, their deal would later be put on hold after the Bliss was seized by the Maroni Crime Family.[1]
Alliance with Penguin[]
After retaking the Bliss from the Maronis, Penguin and his crew began selling it to the Triads and the other gangs of Gotham. However, they began to face cracking down from the Maronis and Gigante families, led by Sofia and Salvatore Maroni.[2]
Penguin later called Zhao and the other gang leaders to meet and discuss the conflict. At the summit, Zhao expressed his displeasure in allying with Penguin given how he previously betrayed both Sofia and the Maronis. However, Penguin convinced the other gangs that if they work together they can rise up and rule the city. Zhao and the other gang head’s begrudgingly accepted the deal.[2]
Fall of an Old Rule[]
After the Bombing of Crown Point, the Triads and the other gangs decide to abandon Penguin, and they instead side with Sofia, who tells them that the first to bring her Penguin would be given control of all of her operations. However, Link soon contacted Penguin and his driver Victor Aguilar, together they, along with the other lieutenants of the other gang leaders, schemed to kill their bosses, including Zhao.[3]
After apprehending Penguin and Vic outside of City Hall, Zhao and Link bought them both to meet with Sofia at the airport. However, at the exchange, Zhao was betrayed by Link and all of his men, who sided with Penguin and Vic. Zhao was killed in the ensuing gunfire. Link was made the new head of the Triads, and the Triads were incorporated into the newly formed Cobb Crime Family.[3]
